Tatu City Certifies 500 Construction Workers Through NCA
Tatu City has announced the successful completion of a National Construction Authority (NCA) accreditation exercise, certifying 500 skilled workers and site supervisors.
In a statement, Tatu City said this milestone underscores its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards in building safety, quality, and compliance with Kenya’s construction regulations.
The week-long accreditation covered Tatu City’s technical staff and construction professionals at Tatu Industrial Park, Kijani Ridge, and Unity Homes.
Workers, including masons, electricians, plumbers, painters, welders, carpenters, and supervisors, underwent rigorous evaluation to meet NCA’s technical and safety benchmarks.
Speaking during the inauguration of the exercise, NCA Kiambu County regional coordinator Julius Muchiri, noted that the exercise set a benchmark for the construction industry.
“By prioritising accreditation, Tatu City ensures a safer, more compliant building environment, serving as a model for other developers,” he said.
Kenya’s construction sector faces ongoing challenges, including non-compliance with building codes, use of unqualified personnel, and corruption which are factors contributing to the collapse of numerous buildings.
According to a recent NCA audit, over 70% of inspected buildings are unsafe, highlighting the urgent need for adherence to safety and quality standards.
“At Tatu City, quality and safety are non-negotiable. This accreditation program not only enhances the skills of our workforce but also ensures that every structure we build stands the test of time,” Tatu City lead clerk of works Onesmus Kinyua said.
Tatu City’s holistic approach integrates health, safety, and compliance as essential pillars of its development strategy.
The NCA accreditation seeks to assure developers and contractors that all construction workers and site supervisors at Tatu City possess the requisite technical expertise and adhere to safety regulations, fostering a safer, more reliable construction environment.
