HMD Skyline Officially Launched in Kenya


The long awaited HMD Skyline device has officially been launched in Kenya. This is the company’s midrange smartphone in the country.

The HMD Skyline has been designed following the company’s repairability focus. It comes with a removable back and the back design is made of glass with an aluminium frame. For authentication, you have a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

At the front is a 6.5-inch P-OLED screen with 1080p screen resolution and upto 144Hz refresh rate and brightness peaking at 1000 nits. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

HMD Skyline is powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor paired with upto 12GB RAM and upto 256GB storage. You can increase the storage with an external MicroSD card upto 512GB. It also runs on Android 14 and will get 2 major Android OS uograddsa d 3 yers of security updates.

Aligning with it’s digital detox motto, HDM included software features like detox mode that limits access to social media and notifications when they become too much so you can focus on other things, giving you more time to live in the moment without distraction.

At the back we get a triple camera setup made of a 108MP main cameras with OIS, 50MP 2x telephoto camera with 4x lossless zoom and a 13MP ultrawide. Selfies are taken care of by the 50MP front facing camera. For video recording, the primary camera can shoot upto 4K 30fps video while the selfie camera is capped at 1080p video recording. To add to the photography, you also have nice features to play around including AI Capture Fusion technology that maximizes detail in photos taken with it.

Keeping the lights on is a 4600mAh battery that supports 33W fast Type-C charging. The battery is non-remocable but replaceable. A full charge will need 76 minutes. It also supports wireless charging upto 15W and reverse wireless charging upto 5W.

Other features include IP54 ingress protection, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G support and a customizable textured button located on the left side that lets you quickly access to apps and features with a single or double press.

Skyline comes in various colours including Blue Topaz, Neon Pink, and Twisted Black. In Kenya, the phone goes for Ksh 60,000.
