HMD Skyline mid-range phone with easy repairability launches in Kenya

Human Mobile Devices (HMD), has today unveiled Skyline, a new smartphone that takes inspiration from the Nokia Lumia lineup.

Powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, HMD says that the Skyline is designed for creators and has been designed for easy repair.

HMD Skyline features a relatively small 6.55-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz and 1,000 nits peak brightness. The phone offers up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

HMD Skyline boats a 108MP primary camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) that doubles up as a 50MP telephoto camera with 4x lossless zoom and a 13MP ultrawide shooter.

The phone comes with a 4,600mAh battery which can be charged at 33W and also supports 15W magnetic Qi2 wireless charging.

For the software front, HMD is promising 2 Android updates and 3 years of security patches. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC.

One of the key selling points for the HMD Skyline is the ease of repairability. Users can open the back of the phone by simply unscrewing a single screw to fix problems like a damaged screen or the charging port.

HMD says it continues to embody its new strategic direction by partnering with global lifestyle brands and focusing on repairability.

The phone also comes with an in-built detox mode with bespoke app which shuts down your social media apps like Instagram and Facebook. Detox mode allows users to tailor their detox to their needs, focus on the real world, and enjoy a balanced smartphone experience whenever they need a break from the digital world.

With the digital detox movement continuing to gather pace, particularly among Gen-Z, HMD says it is a timely technological advance that stands above competitors’ detox functions, which usually only silence apps and notifications.

HMD Skyline launches in two distinct colourways, Neon Pink and Twisted Black and will be available for purchase starting this August for KES 58,000.
