Our best OPPO smartphones in 2023

OPPO smartphones in 2023: This was quite a busy year for OPPO in Kenya. The smartphone manufacturer released several devices in the market – from the A series to the Reno Series, making it one of the top smartphone vendors in the country.

Over the years since I first used an OPPO device, 2023 was the year we saw some good improvements in hardware. OPPO also released more competitive devices across the board and did some series work and improvements on ColorOS, its Android software skin. ColorOS is now one of my favourite versions of Android thanks to it being bloatware-free.

OPPO’s latest flagship is the OPPO Find N3 series which was launched in November and includes the Find N3 Flip and Find N3 Fold. They are pretty decent devices. I currently use the Find N3 Flip as my daily driver; the phone delivers a breakthrough experience across imaging, design, and usability taking on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

OPPO’s Reno line of smartphones which have also become my favourite in the mid-range space also offer quite a good balance between price and features. The latest handset in this series is the Reno 10 which I really loved. Then of course there’s the budget offering within the OPPO A series which we didn’t really get a chance to to interact with this year.

Here are however our best phones from OPPO we reviewed in 2023.

OPPO Reno8 T 5G

Oppo Reno8 T 5G review

OPPO Reno8 T 5G (Unboxing video) was a slight upgrade over the Reno8 which added some good value to the line-up. I loved the curved display and the Android 13 out-of-the-box offering. We had so many new phones launched this year that were still running Android 12 with no clear timelines on when they would receive updates.

With the Reno8 T 5G, it was clear OPPO had upped its midrange offering. Having used nearly all the devices in the Reno Series, we saw some huge improvements. It was good to see the company bring some features we’re used to seeing on flagships to midrange devices.

OPPO Find N2

Oppo Find N2 Flip

OPPO Find N2 Flip was launched in Kenya in Many to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The device was an excellent option for anyone in the market for a compact foldable phone but wasn’t satisfied with what Samsung was offering.

The functionality of the two phones was the same though with the obvious difference between the two being the size of the cover screen. This aspect was actually what OPPO was pushing as one of the main reasons you should choose the Find N2 Flip over the Z Flip 4.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip also got rid of the much-talked-about crease that we have seen on several foldable phones released this year. Other than the invisible crease, the cover screen was also the best implementation I have seen on a flip phone. The phone was and still is one of the best flip phones you can buy in the market right now.

OPPO Reno10 5G

OPPO smartphones in 2023

OPPO tried getting everything right with the OPPO Reno10 5G – a stylish design, a very solid display, an impressive battery and some pretty decent cameras.

The phone runs everything smoothly so you won’t need to worry about any lags. Apart from the small downsides (the preinstalled apps which you can uninstall), the phone is a very strong contender in the midrange space.

OPPO introduced its first-ever telephoto portrait camera to the Reno10 series, and it is also the first time a telephoto portrait camera made its way to its segment.  This, plus several other interesting features made the OPPO Reno10 5G a good buy which shouldn’t come as a surprise, OPPO has been doing a great job with its devices lately, especially the Reno series.  The phone gave devices like the Galaxy A54, A34 and even the  Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G a run for their money.

OPPO Find N3 Flip

OPPO smartphones in 2023

OPPO Find N3 Flip was launched in Dubai in November alongside the foldable OPPO Find N3, a launch event I was privileged to attend.

With the Find N3 Flip, OPPO is hoping to take on Samsung with its Galaxy Z Flip. As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I am currently using the phone as my daily driver and it delivers a breakthrough experience across imaging, design, and usability.

The Find N3 Flip is an interesting device, and if you have used the previous Flip from OPPO you will notice the company has made some interesting improvements setting new standards in its category. The flip phone also stands as the first flagship triple-camera flip phone, boasting a 50MP wide, 48MP ultra-wide, and 32MP 2x zoom equivalent telephoto camera system. This innovation includes the pioneering integration of a telephoto lens, a noteworthy first for flip phones.

Other smartphones launched by OPPO in Kenya last year include the OPPO A18, A98, A78 and A58.  We didn’t get a chance to interact with these devices but OPPO claimed they bring together cutting-edge technology, unparalleled style, and exceptional performance to consumers delivering “A Perfect Experience”.

We also interviewed OPPO’s PR Manager for Kenya Fredrique Achieng to discuss the company’s operation and plans for the Kenyan market. You can watch here.

In the meantime, share with us your favourite OPPO smartphones for 2023 and what you expect to see from the company in 2024.
