Tecno Camon 20 Pro 4G design is quite a stunner

TECNO Camon 20 series has been available in the local market for about three months. Tecno officially launched the series in Kenya in May comprising the Tecno Camon 20, Camon 20 Pro, Camon 20 Pro 5G and the Camon 20 Premier 5G.

The Camon 20 Premier 5G is the big brother here featuring a leather back with a geometric pattern design. The smartphone runs Android 13 out of the box and gets a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080×2400 pixels resolution. We haven’t been able to get our hands on it, instead, we have the Pro 4G version which is what we will be talking about in this article.

Specifically, we will be talking of the phone’s design which has become one of its key selling points.

The Design

The phone comes with what Tecno is calling the Camon PUZZLE deconstructionist design. It’s industry’s first and looks pretty good. If you’re been a user of the Camon devices you will notice a very big difference compared to previous devices in this series. The design is actually similar across the entire lineup of the Camon 20 series except for the 5G models which have a more premium finish, this is expected considering their price tag.

Tecno says this design was inspired by the deconstructionist genre of postmodern architecture. The company fused the aesthetic concepts of international fashion brands and pioneering designers and created the unique Camon PUZZLE design.

The back has a nice-looking plastic finish with some patterns that reflects depending on how light hits it. It also has a pentagon-like camera cut out as we have on the rest of the devices in the series, but I like the fact that it doesn’t pultrude like the rest of them. The back of the phone is flat, making it comfortable to hold in hand, and Tecno also gives you a case in the box for added protection.

The color option we have for review is Predawn Black but the phone is also available in Serenity Blue.

Remember the magic skin that Tecno has been making noise about this year? The company says it tried for the first time to engrave it with 20 irregular ribs in a luxury lychee pattern Magic Skin while sapphire-grade nanocrystalline ceramic is integrated into the device’s back cover construction. ‘’The combination of advanced materials and bold design challenge traditional smartphone design language and lets Camon 20 users make a stylish statement.’’ the company says.

This design has won the prestigious MUSE Design Award 2023 as a gold winner and highlights Tecno’s position as a pioneer of smartphone design.

The Camon 20 Pro sports very nice-looking flat edges instead of curved ones. The right side of the phone houses the volume rocker and power button, while at the bottom has a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grille. There is also another speaker on the top edge for a stereo sound output.

The SIM-ejector tray, which has a dedicated slot for a microSD card, is located on the left edge.

If you’re a fan of not too big and not too small displays the Camon 20 Pro could be a good phone for you to consider. The display is a 6.67-inch AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD plus resolution.

There is a camera cut out at the top, which is nicely placed to avoid any distractions when you’re playing some videos. It’s quite small and barely noticeable.

The display is flat and very bright outdoors getting you up to 700 nits under direct sunlight, but you have to set it to auto brightness to really max it out.

It is responsive to touch, and playing games on the phone is quite enjoyable thanks to the high refresh rate. There’s also an under-display fingerprint scanner

Well, that’s it for this article. We have an in-depth review article so be on the lookout for that.
