Kenyan startup iGas wants to revolutionalize the LPG industry through digitization
iGas, a Kenyan startup that was founded in 2021 is on a mission to turn around the LPG industry which has largely been left behind in digitization.
The firm has built a platform where commercial and domestic gas vendors can easily create online shops from which customers can purchase gas through the iGas app.
Through the platform, vendors benefit from shop visibility, digital business management, sales analytics and periodic reports, while customers can access their nearest verified LPG shops, seamless payment options, refill fund options, and a convenient purchase experience.
“We are aggregating the customer purchasing data to design a credit scoring model we will use to extend small personal and MSME loans, and customised insurance solutions,” iGas founder and CEO Michael Rapudo said.
The startup says on its website that it aims to facilitate “ clean cooking access to millions of households through a digital LPG marketplace with verified readily available LPG vendors, seamless flexible payments and convenient deliveries.”
The digitization of this market is certainly a step in the right direction as it has largely mainly relied on customer-vendor relationships. According to the CEO, revenue is through a commission charged on each transaction.
They have reportedly onboarded over 100 vendors and performed over 1,000 transactions so far. The company hopes to rapidly grow its customer base and expand beyond Kenya,
The startup is currently seeking seed funding for further product development and aggressive marketing as it builds initial traction.
