Jumia opens a warehouse and logistics network facility in Nairobi

E-commerce leader Jumia has opened a new integrated warehouse and logistics network facility in Nairobi.

The new facility Jumia says will aim to transform its logistics operations by providing increased storage capacity for scale-up of warehouse operations and better management of the business due to the convergence of various services.

The ~11,000 m2 warehouse and network facility is centrally located along Mombasa road, closer to the airport as well as the city center, taking advantage of the new Nairobi Expressway to reach consumers faster and enhance their shopping experience.

“The new integrated facility has enabled us to converge our multiple warehouses and network operations under one roof. This will help us to improve our fulfillment operations to be more efficient and scalable thus taking care of our future needs as the business continues to grow. We shall be able to offer more products across different categories and deliver them faster to our consumers,” said Jumia Kenya CEO Juan Seco.

The company is looking to transform the Jumia Express operations through the new integrated facility. Jumia Express is a “Fulfilled by Jumia” service where sellers store their inventory in Jumia warehouses, ensuring faster delivery (next-day delivery for Nairobi and surrounding areas), no out-of-stock cancellations, and the highest standards of quality storage. This allows the consolidation of items from multiple sellers in the same warehouse.

E-commerce companies are continuously taking action to keep gas emissions from their logistics operations in check. In line with this, Jumia will eliminate first-mile transportation between warehouses and sorting centers leading to a reduction in carbon emissions.

“The convergence of our operations has helped us to reduce up to 15 truck trips per day enabling us to reduce carbon emissions significantly. We will continue to look for opportunities to contribute positively to the environment,” said Jumia Services Country Manager Ankur Agarwal.

Jumia’s logistics services business arm is also available to external clients who are not listed on Jumia and wish to leverage its network, technology, and expertise for last-mile and line haul deliveries.

The integrated facility also offers improved working conditions for staff including better working space and convenient location in terms of accessibility.
