Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 officially launched


Samsung on Wednesday unveiled its newest lineup of foldables – the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The new foldables are upgrades from last year’s Galaxy Fold and Flip and come with improved internal specifications and more.

This fourth-generation, Galaxy Z series continues to break from convention to deliver new, impactful interactions that enhance everyday life.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 just like we saw with the Flip 3 is Samsung’s most popular foldable phone. The phone weighs just 187 grams and comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X outer screen with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). This is actually the main screen that folds internally. There is also a smaller secondary 1.9-inch Super AMOLED 260×512 pixels outer display that you can use when the phone is folded in its clamshell form factor.

The Flip 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and comes with 8GB RAM and three storage variants of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Samsung added a  3,700mAh battery with support for 25W wired and Qi wireless charging on this phone. 

We are also getting a dual camera setup on the rear comprising a 12MP main camera with OIS and a second 12MP ultrawide camera with 123-degree field of view. There’s a 10MP front camera for taking selfies and video calls.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has an IPX8 certification, Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1, a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor, and support for Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax.

With the slimmer hinge, straightened edges, contrasting hazed back glass and glossy metal frames, the Z Flip 4 design is Samsung’s most refined yet. Users can fully customise the Z Flip4 inside and out, with Galaxy Themes on both Cover and Main Screen to complement their style with custom fonts, icons and designs. Plus, users can create their own Cover Screen with new clock designs and backgrounds in various formats such as images, GIFs and even video.

Galaxy Fold 4 also ships with Android 12L, a special version of Android created by Google for large-screen experiences. It comes with a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X  display panel on the inside. This main folding screen supports 120Hz refresh rate and can dynamically switch from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the task at hand.

The smaller outer screen, which users can operate on when the Fold 4 is closed is a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that also supports 120Hz refresh rate. 

Powering the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The foldable comes in three storage variants all with 12GB RAM. You can choose between 256GB, 512GB or 1TB internal storage.

For the optics, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a triple camera on the rear comprising an upgraded 50MP main sensor with OIS and 30x Space Zoom lens, a 12MP ultrawide sensor with 123-degree field of view and a third 10MP telephoto sensor with OIS. The outer front camera which users can use when the phone is closed is a 10MP sensor, while the inner front camera usable when the phone is opened is a 4MP under-display sensor.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with a 4,400mAh battery and support for 25W wired charging and Qi wireless charging. Other features include an IPX8 certification, Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1 and a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor. The phone weighs just 263 grams. 

Pricing and Availability

The smartphones will be available for Pre-order from 11th August to 31st August. Samsung says the pre-order offers include; – Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with Phone Cover, S-Pen, Samsung Care Plus, 24-month Warranty. Samsung has also partnered with Badili to offer trade-in service where Kshs 25,000 will be topped up over the traded-in phone value and Device financing with Aspira that will see consumers enjoy a 0% interest rate for 6 months.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with Clear Slim Phone Cover, Samsung Care Plus, 24-month Warranty, and trade-in service with Badili where Kshs 20,000 will be topped up over the traded-in phone value as well as Device financing with Aspira that will see consumers also enjoy 0% interest rate for 6 months.

Samsung has priced the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at USD 999 while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is priced at USD 1,799. We will be updating you on the local pricing in our subsequent articles.
