Fleets, it’s been real: Twitter Officially Shuts Down Fleets

A few weeks ago, Twitter announced that it will be shutting down its Instagram Stories-Like Platform feature ‘Fleets’ on August 3rd, well, it finally did.

Starting today, most users have already started reporting the feature not being available.

Twitter said on July 14th that it is killing this feature due to low usage just eight months after rolling it out to everyone.

‘’We hoped Fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter. But, in the time since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped. ‘’ lya Brown, Head of Product, Brand & Video Ads at Twitter said.

As of now, Fleets interface is still showing up on Twitter’s official mobile app for some users. Users, however, will no longer be able to view it or even post any new content starting at midnight.

So what happens to the bar above your Twitter timeline?

Twitter says the bar above your Home timeline will now appear only when there’s a live Space from someone you follow. This is what Twitter meant when it said it will be shutting down Fleets but will create other ways for people to join the conversation and talk about what’s happening in their world.

Twitter said it’s also making some updates on the composer for traditional tweets to feature more camera editing features from Fleets, like text-formatting and GIF stickers over photos.

In the meantime, goodbye fleets, it’s been real.
