Trump Banned from Facebook and Instagram ‘indefinitely’

Trump continues to be deplatformed...

After what happened in the US Capitol on Wednesday night, Donald Trump has had a rough 48 hours on the internet. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitch locked his accounts. But Facebook is taking it a notch higher, banning Trump ’s account “indefinitely.”

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, leveraged his social media platform to break the news.

“The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden,” Zuckerberg said.

“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great … we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely,” he added.

According to Zuckerberg, Trump won’t use his Facebook or Instagram account for “at least the next two weeks” until the peaceful transition of power is complete.

The extension of the ban was attributed to the “use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.”

Twitter has also threatened to ban Trump’s account for good if he violates its rules in the future.

In a big blow to Trump, other platforms have also joined the bandwagon. Yesterday, Shopify disabled Trump’s campaign store, YouTube has threatened to punish him, and his Twitch account has been disabled.

However, on Twitter, Trump is back after the conclusion of the 12-hour ban. He promised to ensure a smooth transition of power.
