Huawei conspires with the Chinese Government, UK Parliament Says

The British parliament’s defense committee says they have found evidence that the Chinese technology giant, Huawei, conspires with “the Chinese Communist Party apparatus”.

The chairman of the defense committee said, “The West must urgently unite to advance a counterweight to China’s tech dominance.” 

“We must not surrender our national security for the sake of short-term technological development.”  

The UK had previously considered Huawei to take part in building the non-core components of its 5G network but later changed its mind. In July, UK prime minister Borris Johnson ordered the removal of Huawei equipment in the country’s budding 5G network by 2027.

It was a big win for the US, which was urging its allies to ban embattled the Chinese tech company from taking part in their 5G network. 

The committee did not provide any evidence on its statement. But they, however, said that they did find clear-cut evidence that the company collides with the Chinese government. These findings are based on the testimony of academics, cyber-security experts, and telecom industry insiders, among others, the BBC reports. 

The committee has also advised Britain’s MPs to push the deadline forward to 2025, in case relations with China deteriorate or pressure from the US and its allies make it necessary.

In response, Huawei argues that Britain’s decision is “built on opinion rather than fact.” 

“We’re sure people will see through these groundless accusations of collusion and remember instead what Huawei has delivered for Britain over the past 20 years,” a company spokesperson said(via Reuters). 

Huawei’s tussles with the West started in the United States, after Washington’s increased concerns, the company might be used for spying by the CCP. Huawei has repeatedly denied this allegation.
