Google Issues Chrome Update to Patch This Serious Security Flaw
If you’re a regular user of Google’s Chrome independent of the desktop platform, it is high time that you should be updating your browser. The new flaw can let hacker’s takeover your computer when you visit malicious websites. The vulnerability only affects Windows, Linux, and Mac. So, Android and iPhone are not affected.
“Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the browser. Depending on the privileges associated with the application, an attacker could install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights,” stated non-profit Center for Internet Security in an advisory issued on August 27th.
Good news is Google has already patched this flaw and two other mysterious flaws. The best part of the news is that the vulnerability has not been yet exploited.
Chrome’s new update is version 76.0.3809.132 for both Windows, Mac, and Linux. The Chrome update was rolled out on August 26th. To check which version of Chrome you are using; Navigate to Settings > About Chrome.
The Chrome update is already rolling out in stages, so you might not be able to download the update yet. Meanwhile, CIS recommends staying away from un-trusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or un-trusted sources.
