Oppo Signs Patent Deals With Intel and Ericsson to Boost Global Business


Oppo, the Chinese smartphone maker, has inked a deal with Intel and Ericsson that the company hopes will prove essential to help them drive more innovations. Oppo says the multi-year patent licenses will help the company grows its business in global markets.

The company has purchased over 58 patents from the Intel that revolve around cellular mobile communications technology. Besides, Oppo purchased rights to over 500 patents from Ericsson that covers global countries, including Kenya.

Speaking about the new partnerships, Oppo Kenya’s Brand Manager, Jesse Wu, said, “OPPO has always placed intellectual property rights as our top priority. We look forward to working with Ericsson to drive cutting-edge innovation in products and services.”

“We are pleased to enter into agreements of this kind with Intel and Ericsson. The communications patents will help us focus on offering better products for our customers.” He added.

Oppo is also keen on the next-gen of wireless networks, 5G. As of 2019, the company has already deployed patents in more than 20 countries in regions around the world.

The Chinese smartphone maker reveals that they have filed over 37,000 patent applications globally and boasts over 11,000 granted patents as of July 8th, 2019. Specifically, on matters 5G, the company has filed over 2,200 global patent families applications related to 5G technology.
