Avic International, Education ministry partner to launch Season 5 of Africa Tech Challenge

AVIC International in partnership with the Ministry of Education today launched the 5th edition of the Africa Tech Challenge which aims to empower the youth in technical training institutions with practical skills.

Unlike the previous contests, this year’s contest will also include contestants from countries such as Gabon, Zambia, Ivory Coast and Ghana with the three most outstanding contestants will proceed to China for further training.

Speaking during the launch Principal secretary in the Ministry of Education’s state department of Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) said ‘’It is our mandate as a ministry to ensure provision of the right skills and competences for national development. We are proud to partner with Africa Tech Challenge as it supports the ministry to offer young people an opportunity to get equipped with relevant and quality skills to meet the needs of the labour market.”

TVET Director for AVIC International Holdings Corporation in Kenya Mr. Jin Yetaoo said the company has successfully held four ATC professional skills contest through a specialized process, where they train on current and future required skills.  

‘’Our aim is to promote development of professional skills education in Africa , adopt to international standards and connect  with the world’s highest – level of professional skills’’ He said.

The top two winning teams of the African Tech Challenge will get a manufacturing contract of USD 100,000 while the tree most outstanding participants will go and study in China for a period of two and half years while 180 will be trained at The Technical University of Kenya and Kenya Technical Training College.

AVIC international also says that it plans to set up its regional headquarters in Nairobi by the year 2020. The Chinese company is operating in over 30 countries globally.

This year marks the fifth year since the Africa Tech challenge was launched.
