You can now place your Jumia Black Friday orders via USSD

Jumia is for the first time accepting Black Friday orders by USSD from customers. What this means is, customers can simply dial *483* 483#, pick the product they want to buy and the order will be processed just the same way orders placed from the Jumia Kenyan website or mobile app are processed.

“USSD is used by millions of Kenyans on a daily basis. If we can make the process of ordering online for the first time a bit easier for customers by opening up new low-cost channels, we will do them all.’’ Jumia Managing Director Sam Chappatte said adding that Jumia’s aim is to go mainstream and bring lower prices, convenience, choice, and quality products to the masses”

USSD is fast gaining adoption for service delivery in Kenya and customers using feature phones will now be among the millions of Kenyans who can enjoy Jumia Black Friday deals during this entire one month period.

So how does the USSD work? As we mentioned customers can just dial  *483* 483# from their phone. They can then pick the category of product they want to purchase, in this case, either phones, Appliances, Toys or Laptops. Once they select a category, a list of different products in that category will appear, choose the product you want, place the order and that’s it.  You will then receive a text message confirming your order. The process should not take you more than five minutes.

The Jumia Black Friday is running for a whole month and will end on December 13th. Since going live on November 13th, 3 million customers have logged onto the Jumia platform to secure deals with the first order being placed within 6 seconds of the campaign going live at midnight.

“It’s been an exciting start to the Black Friday Festival – with customers reacting positively to the offers our partners have put forward. We are seeing increasing interest in smaller towns around Kenya, and expect that Nairobi will start to represent a smaller share of our business in the future as a result. ‘’ Sam Chappatte said.

Next week, Jumia says it will shift focus to Black Friday XXX-24TH, where customers will get more Treasure Hunts, more Flash Sales, and 1000 more deals.
