Are you one of those people who hate those 30-second ads that appear before you can watch a YouTube video? Well, I am, but there is some good news here. Google has announced that it will no longer support them.
In a statement originally given to Campaign, which was later confirmed by The Verge, Google said it will not focus on commercial formats that are more engaging for both advertisers and viewers. Don’t be excited yet as this new changes are not coming soon, until 2018.
‘’We’re committed to providing better ads experience for users online. As part of that, we’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers,” A Google spokesperson said in a statement.
This good news does not, however, mean Google will not stop showing the shorter pre-roll ads that you cannot skip. The shorter ads which are said to include 20 seconds’ clips, as well as 6 seconds’ ad formats, were introduced in 2016.
Again, we said these changes are not going to take place anytime soon, until 2018. So you still have many more months to cope with those annoying 30-seconds ads.
Remember if you want a completely ad-free YouTube experience you can always subscribe to YouTube Red which cuts ads completely. YouTube Red also offers you access to excuse shows and other video content. The service is, however, available only in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Mexico. We are not sure when it’s going to be rolled to Africa and other parts of the world.
