Ride-hailing company, Uber, has temporarily suspended its services in Uganda. The company’s decision follows the 14-day national lockdown announced in the country.
The company will be out of business throughout the lockdown period as a measure to protect the safety and well-being of its community.
Previously Uber Uganda had already suspended UberBoda only, it’s motorcycle hailing arm, before the national lockdown after the government ordered the grounding of all public transport vehicles including boda boda operations.
However, under the new order Uber Uganda’s entire business is grounded for the next 14 days starting April 1, subject to change in case of further directions from the local government.
Uganda’s national lockdown started on April 1 and will be on for the next two weeks. The country has already reported 44 confirmed cases after 11 children tested positive yesterday.
