The Nokia 6 (2018) was among the Nokia Android devices launched this year in Kenya. The device was actually unveiled in April together with the Nokia 1 and Nokia 7 Plus.
When these devices were first unveiled to the world during the 2018 Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, HMD’s Chief Executive Florian Seiche said the company has sold around 70 million phones after introducing 11 new phone models over the past year. This number is expected to grow especially with the launch of this new devices.
Both devices run on the latest version of Android and we managed to get the Nokia 6 (2018) which comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels resolution.
Measuring just 148.80 x 75.80 x 8.60 (height x width x thickness) and weighing 172.00 grams, the device is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor and comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB via a microSD card.
For the cameras, the Nokia 6 (2018) packs a 16-megapixels rear camera and an 8 megapixels front shooter for selfies. As we mentioned earlier the Nokia 6 (2018) runs on the latest version of Android 8.0 and is powered by a 3000mAh non-removable battery.
The device is also dual SIM (GSM and GSM) accepting Nano-SIM cards. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G.
That’s basically all you get when it comes to the Nokia 6 (2018) specs. In this article, I am also going to do a quick unboxing and first impression to give you an idea of what to expect should have some Ksh,30,000 to spend on the device.
Packaging
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes in a colourful box with the Nokia name splashed at the top and a photo of two hands holding each other which is different from the iconic Nokia handshake logo.
Opening the box reveals the Nokia 6 (2018) with the box content which includes the AC adapter, USB cable, and earphones all underneath.
First impressions
The Nokia 6 (2018) 5.50-inch display is good topped up with a unibody metal design and a 2.5D screen on the front.
The phone is quite sleek as well. The design is actually good and I am so much impressed with the effort Nokia put here.
The power and volume rockers are on the right side and I like the fact that they are positioned in a way that is easily noticeable.
The 3.5mm headphone jack and antenna line are at the top while the USB Type-C port is at the bottom. I find the Type-C USB port an impressive addition to the Nokia 6. At the bottom is also where you have the speaker grills. You actually get two of them, a single speaker and a microphone.
Nokia also decided to redesign the backside of the Nokia 6 by adding the ZEISS branding to the camera housing. The camera appears really nice especially when viewed from a good angle.
The ZEISS logo is actually vertically placed below the camera, under which we also have the dual tone LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is right below the camera set up while the microphone is located just above it. The Nokia logo then follows down below with, with the Android One branding and some legal information at the bottom of the back side.
