TECNO Camon 17 Series Officially Launched in Kenya

Price starts at KES 17,499

TECNO Mobile has officially unveiled its new Camon 17 series after a series of teasers on social media. TECNO Camon 17 series includes a regular CAMON 17 and a Pro version. The first thing and the most notable to note about the new series is the refreshed design. The Camon logo is bigger than ever, reminiscent of Xiaomi’s POCO branding.

Camon 17 also ships in quite different colors to the 16 series. You get to choose between Frost Silver and Deep Sea Blue.

TECNO Camon 17 runs MediaTek’s Helio G85 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. There’s also a cheaper 4GB + 128GB variant.

Camon 17 Pro model includes the MediaTek Helio G95 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of ROM, which, if still not enough, can be expanded via a microSD card.

The two include Android 11 out of the box. As usual to TECNO devices, there’s HiOS custom skin on top of Android, which overlooking the ads, has a handful of neat, distinct features. Most notably, HiOS includes a Phone cloner, Theft Alarm, and a peek proof. It’s good to note that peek proof is also available on Infinix’s XOS skin.

(N/B: Infinix and TECNO are owned by the same parent company, Transsion Holdings)

The standard Camon 17 has a 6.6-inch 720p panel with 450 nits peak brightness but without any high refresh rate. If a high refresh rate is a priority, Camon 17 Pro offers 90Hz, on its 6.8-inch display.

Both have a 5000mAh battery, with wired fast charging support. TECNO Camon 17 Pro can charge at 33W, while the vanilla model tops out at 18W via USB Type C port.

On the optics, Camon 17 has a Quad camera array – a 48MP main, 2MP depth, and an AI lens. For selfies, you get an 8MP lens housed in a hole punch at the top left side of the display. The Pro includes a 64MP quad-camera setup and a 48MP front selfie camera.

Camon 17 comes with a fingerprint sensor present in almost every smartphone these days, placed on the rear.

You also get the basics, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE support, and a headphone jack.

TECNO Camon 17 price in Kenya starts at KES 17,499 for 4GB and 128GB of internal storage. The bigger 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM model goes for KES 19,999.  The more potent Camon 17 Pro is yet to land in the country. More specific details like pricing are yet to be known.
