TECNO Camon 16s Camera Review: TECNO launched the Camon 16s two weeks ago, and the phone is currently available at Ksh 17,699. But I’ll admit it; I’ve seen the phone selling at discounted prices on Jumia – up to as low as Ksh 16,200.
The phone’s headline specs include the 5,000mAh battery, 6.6-inch 720p IPS LCD panel, 48-megapixel Quad camera setup, MediaTek Helio P35 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage.
As stated in our review, TECNO Camon 16s runs smoothly as you would expect for phones at that price range. Running multiple apps on the device is no issue, and the display provides you with enough ground to play within.
In this article, we’ll focus on the phone’s camera.
TECNO Camon 16s has five cameras in total. Four on the rear, a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel depth, 2-megapixel macro, and AI lens, and one on the front, an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
Let’s kick things off with the front-facing camera.
It has several shooting modes, including AI, beauty, AR shot, portrait, wide selfie, and video. The main mode is AI, which will be accessed every time your fire up the selfie camera. The phone tries to brighten the photos, so depending on conditions, it might work out or in your favour. Overall, the performance is adequate for the asking price.
The only requirement to reach that adequate level is excellent lighting conditions. In dark conditions, the phone allows you to toggle the included front flash at the top bezel to get better shots, but the results aren’t that elegant. There’s no night mode, so no surprises.
You can shoot up to 1080p videos by default, but the phone allows you to switch to 720p or 480p, though I don’t see why you should.
For the back camera, TECNO Camon 16s shoots using the AI lens by default. Photos from the AI lens are passable, especially under the right amount of lightning.

HDR is available. Although shallow, there’s some noticeable difference for shots taken with or without.
While using the 48-megapixel lens, you get a massive 18MB 8000 x 6000 photos with more detail than those shot using the AI lens.
Remember that switching to the 48-megapixel lens means you’ll have to buy some patience before shots are captured.
As for the macro and depth lenses, there’s nothing home to write about.
Overall, the performance is adequate for the asking price.
