Spotify Wrapped: Drake was the most streamed artists in Kenya on Spotify this year

Kenyans listened to 184% more local music on Spotify this year

Spotify today announced the arrival of Wrapped 2022, its yearly look back at what songs, artists, albums and playlists people listened to throughout the year. Drake has clinched the top spot once more as the most streamed artist on Spotify in Kenya for the second year in a row.

Drake is followed by Burna Boy, who is the only African artist in the top five most streamed artists locally. Chris Brown, The Weeknd and Future round up the top five. Incidentally, all these artists released albums in 2022, which likely accounts for their high streams among Kenyans.

Spotify also revealed that Kenyans listened to 184% more local music on the music streaming platform this year. The top-streamed local artist was Sauti Sol, also for the second time, followed by Wakadinali. BURUKLYN BOYZ, who are part of Spotify’s RADAR Africa programme, are the third most streamed Kenyan act in Kenya this year. Otile Brown is down one spot from last year, making him the fourth most streamed Kenyan artist, with Nyashinski rounding up the top five

”We are so encouraged by the trends we are seeing on Spotify in Kenya this year, especially when it comes to the increase in local music consumption. This upward trend means that Kenyan creatives can find inspiration to create more content that resonates with local music lovers. Beyond that, this year’s Wrapped paints a very interesting picture of what music moves Kenyans,” says Spotify’s artist and label partnerships manager for East Africa, Monica Kemoli-Savanne.

As part of Wrapped 2022, Spotify users get a detailed snapshot of their most loved artists, creators and songs.

This year, Wrapped 2022 will also feature messages from artists to their listeners. Users will be able to share their Wrapped cards via WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Fans can also unlock a personalized Snapchat lens that reflects their listening personality and those active in the Roblox universe, can head to Spotify Island for even more fun and games.
