No more Skype for TV come June
Letters, phone calls, telegram, fax and e-mail were the most commonly used mode of communication to the distant world. One day, Microsoft saw a gap; all the modes were replacements of seeing one another considering the distance. Yes, one on one conversations was the good and memorable thing. 11 years ago, Skype was created. Skype is a mode of calling one another through video and audio calls also with an option of Instant Messaging. At the start it wasn’t that common but when rolled out globally it had a lot of support. It started primarily on computers but with advancement in technology many devices rolled in. Skype for; computer, mobile and also on TV! This was to make sure that wherever you are and whichever device you have, you can communicate.
Skype For TV- A family affair and improved way of Video Calling.
Sad news though! Many people have shifted to mobile devices. As we all know, Skype is a form of business. With business you have to look at your consumers demand. Considering that Skype had this post on their blog and I quote;
What changes are coming to Skype for TV?
Starting in June 2016, the Skype for TV application will no longer be supported; there will be no updates to the application. This will also affect new account creation and password resets. This will only be available through Skype.com.
Will I be able to use Skype for TV after June 2016?
This may vary depending on the TV model. TV manufacturers may remove the Skype for TV application from some or all of their models. If you have questions, please contact your TV manufacturer for information on the availability of Skype for TV on your TV model.
Why are these changes being made to Skype for TV?
Since 2010, Skype has delivered a great calling experience in the living room in partnership with several TV manufacturers. But over the years, users have changed the way they use Skype, with the majority accessing it from a mobile device – including when in the living room. We want to make sure we prioritize delivering the best possible experience to the platforms our users are asking for, which is why we’ve decided to focus our efforts in other areas while supporting key functionality on Skype for TV for as long as possible.
It’s a positive move for Skype but negative to some consumers. To the affected ones, sorry but you got to follow the trends on what’s new. For more updates contact Skype or your TV manufacturer.
