Samsung Officially Unveils the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3


Samsung’s 2021 Unpacked event finally happened yesterday. The event saw Samsung unveil its new range of foldable smartphones including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. 

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G are the third generation of Samsung’s foldable category and Samsung says include improvements recommended by previous foldable smartphone users.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes as a successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, while the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a replacement of the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are equipped with IPX8 water resistance.

Samsung did not unveil a Note device as expected but for the first time ever the company is also bringing its beloved Note series technology to Galaxy Z Fold 3, the S Pen functionality. Users can take advantage of fully optimized S Pen features on their foldable screen, which is a perfect fit for on-the-go multitaskers.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 focuses on style and productivity and Samsung added a number of new features to make the phone one of the most powerful Android phones to be released this year. Samsung also added support for the S-Pen stylus and we are also getting some improved cameras and processors.

The phone comes with two displays,  a 7.60-inch touchscreen primary display with a resolution of 2208×1768 pixels at a pixel density of 374 pixels per inch (ppi) and a second 6.20-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 832×2268 pixels. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is powered by an octa-core processor and comes with 12GB of RAM. The internal storage is 256GB 

The phone runs Android 11 and is powered by a 4400mAh battery. For the cameras the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 packs a 12-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a pixel size of 1.8-micron; a 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a pixel size of 1.12-micron, and a 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a pixel size of 1.0-micron. The selfie camera is10-megapixel primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a pixel size of 1.22-micron and a second 4-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a pixel size of 2.0-micron.

The phone was launched in Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver colour options.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 features a 6.7-inch primary full-HD+ (1,080×2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 22:9 aspect ratio, and 425ppi pixel density.  It measures 72.2×86.4×17.1mm when folded and 72.2×166.0x6.9mm when unfolded and weighs just 183 grams.

The size of the primary display is the same one we saw on last year’s model, though the new model comes with a better pixel count.  It also has a larger cover display of 1.9-inch size that has 260×512 pixels resolution and 302ppi pixel density. Remember the Galaxy Z Flip had a 1.1-inch display with 112×300 pixels resolution and 303ppi pixel density.

The phone comes with 128GB and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and also supports 5G. For the battery, we’re getting a 3,300mAh dual-cell battery that supports 15W fast charging and is compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. The phone also supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. 

For the cameras, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and OIS, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. There is also a 10-megapixel selfie camera on top of its folding display, with an f/2.4 lens. This camera setup looks quite similar to what we saw on the Galaxy Z Flip.

Availability

The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 will be available for pre-order from 6th September to 20th September 2021. The recommended retail price22 for Galaxy Z Fold3 will start from KShs. 220,999 for the 512GB and KShs. 209,999 for the 256 GB.

The recommended retail price for Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is KShs. 122,999. The pre-order offer includes complimentary gifts like a A flip cover with S Pen and a wireless charger duo and Samsung Care+ for the Z Fold3 and a leather cover, wireless charger duo, and Samsung Care+ for the Z Flip3.
