Realme 6 Review: Realme finally entered the Kenyan market. The company, one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in the world set shop in the country in August this year.
Realme’s success has been as we have mentioned in a previous article has been fueled by the company’s value for money devices – now with 40 million global smartphone users across 59 markets. The company has quite a range of devices. In total, the company has four smartphone series lineups including Number Series, X Series, Pro Series, and the C Series.
In Kenya, the company has so far launched the Realme C3 featuring a massive 5,000mAh battery, a 6.5-inch display with a notch, triple AI camera setup, and is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G70 processor. Realme C3 is priced under Ksh 14,000. The company also launched the realme 6, a mid-range that is retailing at Ksh 30,000; then there’s the realme C11, a budget device, with a retail price of Ksh 10,000.
Based on how realme is pricing its devices it’s clear they’re here to bring serious competition to competitor smartphones in both segments.

A gaming processor, up to 8GB of RAM, expandable storage, a bigger battery, fast charging support and a quad-camera setup for Ksh.30,00, did we like the device? Here are our quick thoughts.
Design and Display
This is the first time we’re interacting with a realme device but based on reviews I have watched from other markets where the brand is really established the company has really shifted the design on this phone. From a typical gradient design, realme has added a comet-like design on the realme 6. Apparently, this also happens to be the reason behind the phone’s colour names – comet white and comet blue. This design gives the phone a premium look and feel.
At the front there is a mini-notch with a punch-hole, something that has, of course, become very common with most smartphones in this price segment. The phone is not heavy or bulky and this makes it very comfortable to hold in the hand.
At the bottom, there’s the 3.5mm headphone jack alongside the USB Type-C charging port and speaker grilles. At the back, you have the horizontally stacked quad rear camera along with an LED flash which we will be talking about later on. The SIM card tray and volume buttons are all placed on the left. The power button which also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner is on the right.
The display is a massive 6.5-inch display with 2400×1080 FHD+ and over 90% screen-to-body. Love that we’re getting very small bezels and display quality is pretty impressive. The colours produced are vibrant and the viewing angles are also great even under direct sunlight.
And of course, one thing we can’t skip mentioning is the 90Hz refresh rate. The realme 6 is one of the rare smartphones to come with a 90Hz refresh rate under this segment. We have also seen it with the Infinix ZERO 8 launching on 7th of September and the TECNO Camon 16 Premier. No doubt the screen feels much smoother and responsive compared to the 60Hz mode and this makes the realme 6 one of those phones with the smoothest displays in its segment.
Performance
The realme 6 is powered by a budget gaming MediaTek Helio G90T processor. It is an octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and it comes with ARM-based Mali G76GPU. This is a gaming processor and handles all the phone’s basic tasks without breaking a sweat. Multi-tasking is also smooth.
There’s an 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which is expandable via a Micro-SD Card.
Realme 6 ships with a realme UI based on Android 10. Realme UI is feature-rich and the user interface comes with massive features such as gesture navigation, customization options among other features. The UI is snappy, I loved that, no lags when opening apps or multitasking.
Battery
The realme 6 offers a 4300mAh battery pack with 30W Fast Charge support, not the bigger we have seen in this segment but it manages to get everything done. The battery manages to last for slightly more than a day on moderate use like browsing, watching youtube videos, calls, texting etc
The 30W Flash charger does an incredible job and manages to charge the smartphone from 0 to 100% for just 50 minutes.
Cameras
For your imaging purposes, the realme 6 is equipped with a quad-camera setup on the rear. It includes a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens (with EIS), a monochrome portrait lens, and a 4cm macro lens.
The selfie camera, on the other hand, is 16MP placed in a hole punch at the top left.

Conclusion
The realme 6 is a good phone, introducing a 90-Hz display to the mid-range for Ksh.30,000. The phone is capable of doing and handling pretty much what you would expect for a phone at that price – a reliable processor, fast, sleek and smooth display. The camera might not be that good but the realme 6 is definitely a phone we would consider at that price.
