More than 5 million customers are now using the M-PESA Super App

Safaricom’s M-PESA super app now has over 5 million customers. Launched in June last year, the app brings front-end insights on customer spending, direct access to statements, and much more into one single app.

It also allows customers to send and receive money among other MPesa related services.

The app comes with a number of other interesting features including “Offline Mode” and “Mini Apps”. The Offline mode” enables customers to use the M-PESA Super App and complete transactions even without data bundles or when totally offline.

Mini-Apps on the other hand enable customers and businesses to complete day-to-day and occasional tasks within the M-PESA Super App and M-PESA for Business App. This includes deliveries, ticket booking, shopping, licences applications, insurance and much more from hundreds of businesses, government agencies, utilities, and other firms.

Since launching the app, Safaricom has been onboarding other service providers to the app. In October, it announced that NHIF services will now be available through the Super App.  Today, it also added the NSSF mini-app to empower customers to access services wherever they may be without visiting NSSF offices or downloading a separate app.

Customers can register for NSSF membership, keep track of their contributions, top-up and manage their NSSF account, and make Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS) payments all within the M-PESA Super App.

“The demand for NSSF services and the need to save for pension has gone beyond formally employed people to entrepreneurs, especially those running medium and small businesses. It has therefore become necessary to partner with organisations such as Safaricom to extend the reach of our services, including through smartphones on the NSSF M-PESA Mini App,” said Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, Managing Trustee – NSSF.

As part of the launch, the first 1,000 NSSF members to make contributions through the NSSF M-PESA Mini App will get an extra 10% free topped up to their account.

“We continue to explore different ways to provide our customers with even more convenience and access to useful services by establishing key partnerships with organisations such as NSSF. The NSSF Mini App will go a long way in providing customers with an exceptional user experience while providing them with the freedom to access services on their smartphones at any time through the M-PESA Super App,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.

The mini-apps is available under the “Discover” option in the app and are provided for free to all customers.

The M-PESA Super App also features Pochi La Biashara and M-PESA Global options to provide customers with a variety of convenient options when sending and receiving money.

The app is available for download on Play Store and Apple store.
