As rumoured before, Apple has finally announced the iPhone SE2. The iPhone SE 2 ships with iPhone 8’s design, one of Apple’s iconic designs, but gets the latest Bionic A13 chipset and camera enhancements. That’s a massive upgrade from 2016’s iPhone SE and even if you’re coming from the iPhone 6.
The phone has a smaller 4.7-inch HD display, the smallest we’ve seen in an iPhone since 2016, and gives a break to the relentless trend of ever-increasing display size in the company’s lineage of smartphones.
The rear camera is a single 12-megapixel lens that features OIS, a flicker sensor for white balance, focus pixels, HDR, and portrait mode and can shoot 4K videos at 60fps.
“The first iPhone SE was a hit with many customers who loved its unique combination of small size, high-end performance and affordable price; the new second-generation iPhone SE builds on that great idea and improves on it in every way,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
Since it emulates iPhone 8’s design, there is the iconic Home Button incorporated with Touch ID, the company’s own biometric authentication feature. The bezels are thick, more than you can imagine, but, hey, the new chipset should offset those worries, if that counts.
iPhone SE supports some latest technologies as well like wireless-charging and, good news, its Qi-compatible. Besides, fast charging is also available, which is touted to juice up the battery by up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. Out of the box is a 5W lightning charger, however. There’s also support for Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit-class LTE.
iPhone SE has an IP67 rating meaning it’s splash-, water- and dust-resistant. IP67 means the phone can stay at a maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes without any problems.
iPhone SE 2 Price
iPhone SE starts at $399 for the 64GB model, but there are two other models with more storage; 128GB and 256GB, going for $449 and $549, respectively. You also get to choose between three colors: either black, white and Product RED.
It will be available in the market from Friday, April 24, in over 40 markets around the world. We are not sure about how fast the phone will be available in Kenya.
