If you’re an avid user of IGTV on Instagram then we have some news for you. Instagram has announced that it will no longer be supporting the separate IGTV app.
Instagram said in a blog post that it will instead focus on keeping all videos in the main Instagram app. The move, the company says is part of its efforts to make video as simple as possible to discover and create.
‘’We believe that this makes it easier for people to have all of these features and abilities in the main app, and are excited to continue to simplify and improve video in the main Instagram app over the coming months,’’ it says.
Instagram launched the standalone IGTV app back in 2018 to compete with YouTube. The app allowed creators to post long-form vertical videos. In August 2020, it introduced Reels to take on TikTok. Instagram Reels allows you to make and share short, captivating videos. Even while it was once derided as a “TikTok rip-off,” Instagram Reels has now won over influencers, brands, and everyday users alike.
‘’Reels continues to be a growing and important part of Instagram and we are excited to invest even more in this format.’’ the blog post read.
‘’Shorter, entertaining videos allow you to inspire trends, express yourself to your audience in a flexible (and fun) way and push culture forwards. Reels also continues to be the largest contributor to engagement growth on Instagram, as more people watch reels to be entertained, go deeper with their interests or discover new creators.’’ it added.
Over the coming months, Instagram says it will continue to invest in simplifying its video formats, making it even easier to create and watch video on Instagram – the way you already do with Reels.
