Infinix ZERO 8 Review

Infinix ZERO 8 Review: Infinix’s flagship device for the year 2020 is now selling in Kenya. Infinix is selling it for Ksh.29,000 and you can buy the phone online as well as offline from Infinix branded retail stores.

The device features some interesting specs and is probably the best device we have ever seen and used from Infinix. The phone also comes with a very unique design. The camera module for example has a unique diamond-shaped arrangement, and the back of the phone has a two-toned design that adds extra oomph to the theme.

At the launch Mike Zhang, Infinix Kenya Brand Manager said, “Infinix is taking a step to be more premium and able to compete and be the face of this new direction as a fashion-conscious brand.”

We have been using the phone a few weeks now and here are some quick thoughts.

Design and Display

Infinix decided to go with a completely new and different design with the Infinix Zero 8 which we definitely like.  The camera module for example as we stated earlier has a unique diamond-shaped arrangement, and the back of the phone has a two-toned design that adds extra oomph to the theme.

The phone comes with a larger display 6.85-inch IPS, well, this is just too big but again it’s just so much enjoyable to use. Infinix also added a high-refresh-rate display, first time we are seeing Infinix doing this. With the display set at 90Hz, it means you get to enjoy and have a good smartphone experience. Scrolling through the app drawer, images and webpages is so much smoother and faster.

The fingerprint scanner is not at the back or in-screen as you may be used to. This is because Infinix has integrated it to the power button at the right-hand side. The left side houses the Dual-SIM tray. 

At the bottom, you have the 3.5mm port, USB Type-C port, a microphone, and the speakers located at the far left. 

Overall, the design looks good and Infinix really tried to get everything right here. 

Cameras

For your imaging purposes, the Infinix Zero 8 with its diamond-themed design has a quad-camera setup on the rear. The camera module includes a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP Ultra-wide lens camera, a 2MP Macro, and a  2MP depth sensor. Plus, a quad-LED flash. For selfies and video calls, Infinix Zero 8 has a primary 48MP camera and an 8MP sensor for wide-angle shots.

Performance, Software and battery life

As far as the performance is concerned the Infinix Zero 8is powered by a Mediatek MT6785 Helio G90T chipset and some 8 gigabytes of memory. There’s nothing really to complain here. The performance is quite impressive and is able to handle day to day tasks with no lags. 

The Infinix Zero 8 also comes with 128GB of internal storage which can be upgraded thanks to the available microSD card slot. This space should however be enough for you to store your files. 

The phone runs version 7 of XOS which is really fast. The software is also very clean compared to the previous versions and also comes with some few new features as well as pre-installed applications. Some of these applications can, however, be annoying especially because of the frequent notifications. Good thing is, however, you can always turn off, uninstall or even disable them. 

For the battery life, again there’s really nothing to complain about here. Infinix has always made phones with good battery life and the Zero 8 is no exception. The battery size is 4,500 mAh with support for 33W fast charging that should get the phone from 0% to 100% in just an hour, this is impressive. 

We also need to mention that the Infinix Zero 8 uses a multi-dimensional liquid cooling technology to keep thermals in check.

Did we like the Infinix Zero 8?

True to say that there’s a lot to like about this device. The design is super good despite being plastic, the performance as well and camera which we will be talking about in a separate article does a fantastic job as well.

XOS 7 is also very clean and fresh and this gives good user experience although it can get annoying at times with the frequent alerts and notifications.

The 90Hz screen is also one of the features we’re really looking forward to on the Infinix Zero 8. Scrolling through the app drawer, images and webpages is so much smoother. Even the gaming experience was sleeker even for fast-paced games.

Remember the  Infinix Zero is also the company’s first phone to feature a dual selfie camera setup on the front. For Ksh,29,000 though, the Infinix Zero 8 goes head to head with a number of competitors like the recently launched realme 6 and even the TECNO Camon 16 Premier. We will however give Infinix a plus for the design and camera on this device and yes, it’s worth considering.
