Infinix HOT 6 Pro review: Good pricing with an amazing battery life

The Infinix HOT 6 Pro was launched about a month ago in the country. The device is the first smartphone from Infinix Mobility to be launched in 2018 and spots some really amazing features.

Display and Design

The Infinix HOT 6 Pro is a beautifully crafted device. The 18.9 aspect ratio makes you easily view all your content in the same frame. Again, should we really be surprised that Infinix decided to go with this screen? Not really, 18.9 aspect ratio screens on smartphones are going to be big this year with almost every manufacturer on board with the new format. And this means those who want to stick with the older screen format will have few choices. Infinix does not want to be left behind and this is probably something we will be seeing in all its future devices.

The display is good, bright enough to keep you going especially indoors. The back and of the Infinix HOT 6 Pro are all made of plastic with the front covered in glass. The device is tall, of course, this can be attributed to the 18.9 aspect ratio.

The edges are nicely curved and all the buttons are placed at places that you can easily reach, the phone is also very light and as I said in my unboxing article I am actually impressed with the efforts Infinix put in coming up with this design.

One thing I liked about the 18.9 aspect ratio on the Infinix HOT 6 Pro is that I was able to view more content in the same frame. If you’re the kind of person who likes reading e-books or long articles like me the Infinix HOT 6 Pro is a perfect fit.

Specs, performance, and battery

As far as the performance is concerned, the InfInix HOT 6 Pro does not disappoint. The device is powered with a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset with a 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Remember the device comes in 2GB RAM for the 16 variant and 3GB for the 32GB variant, the review unit we had is 3GB RAM variant.

I never experienced any lags throughout the period I was using the time. Switching between apps was also fast.

The device still comes with the same XOS we are used to seeing on Infinix devices. I like the fact that Infinix has remained consistent with this. The icons are all rounded, unlike the what we see on Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 which appears cluttered with inconsistent icons – for example, some icons are squared while some are rounded. The Infinix HOT 6 Pro OS well optimized for better performance giving you a seamless and good user experience.

The Infinix HOT 6 Pro also comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box which means you get to enjoy the latest software and updates the phone has to offer.

The Infinix HOT 6 Pro is powered by a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery and its probably the best battery I have seen on any device this year. It shouldn’t take you more two and a  half hours to fully charge the phone from 0% to 100%. The battery is a plus for the device and lasted me for a whole day on heavy use. I wish it came with fast charge technology though. Overall, the performance is good for a Ksh.16,000 device.

The devices accommodate true dual SIM and an SD card.  This means that they have available slots for each of your SIM cards and the SD card.

Infinix HOT 6 Pro Fingerprint Scanner and Face Unlock

The fingerprint scanner on the Infinix HOT 6 Pro is located at the back and does it job well as expected. Its fast and apart from just unlocking your phone you can use it for other functions like taking photos, accepting calls, call recording and much more.

Infinix also decided to add a Face unlock which I really liked. When in dark surroundings, it prompts you to let it use the front-facing LED flash, something I found quite impressive.

Camera

For the camera, the Infinix HOT 6 Pro decided to give the 13MP rear shooter a 2MP companion, you have a dual camera set-up. Well, there’s not so much to expect here but it takes some really good outdoor photos. The additional 2MP rear camera is there to help you in autofocus and portrait modes. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is 5MP and does also not disappoint.  Check some of the photos taken by the device below. More photos are available on our Instagram page.

Conclusion, Pricing and availability

At 16,000  the Infinix HOT 6 Pro is a good device. The 18:9 screen ratio is quite impressive, and the battery is something out of this world. The performance is also good and I like the additional feature like the Face Unlock that Infinix decided to add to this device.

You can grab the device from Jumia or Kilimall for Ksh. 16,000

  1. I bought mine last week and I just discovered that the phone doesn’t access SD card. In the sense that all the files I tried sending into the SD card through Xender didn’t work. I already set it the SD card to work as potable storage but other apps can store files on it but it won’t show in my Gallery, I snap a photo after I’ve directed the phone storage to SD card but after checking the photo’s details I found out that it was located on the internal storage, please help me check if yours is doing like that. Please and please.
