The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is now officially available in the country. The device was launched today and will be retailing at a retailing price of Ksh. 24,999.
Speaking during the launch, Huawei Mobile Country President, Steven Li said the company will continue improving the smartphone experience through investing in higher storage, larger screen size, and better camera resolution among others. He also assured consumers that all the Huawei devices in the market will continue using Google services as well as Facebook.
“We are glad to be contributing the ever-growing smartphone usage in Kenya, therefore, we would like to reassure our consumers that all devices in the market will continue using Google services as well as Facebook. ‘’
Of course, this statement is in response to the ongoing war between Huawei and the US government that led to the company being restricted from using Google’s Android OS. This ban basically means that Huawei’s future smartphone ecosystem won’t be able to access any Google services, including Gmail, Play Store, or even YouTube. This ban does not affect previous Huawei devices including the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. This also does not stop Huawei from releasing new devices in the market even at seeks alternatives should Google not reverse the ban.
There were also reports of Facebook halting the pre-installation of its app on Huawei devices. That should not, however, worry anyone since the app will still be able to be downloaded on any Huawei devices that will ship without it.
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 Specs and Availability
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 features a motorized pop-up camera skipping the notch and 6.59-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels at a pixel density of 391 pixels per inch (ppi) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 710F processor and comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie and is powered by a 4000mA battery.
For the cameras as we said it features a motorized pop-up selfie camera which is 16-megapixel with an f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera is 16-megapixel with an f/1.8 aperture; a second 8-megapixel camera and a third 2-megapixel camera.
Other features include a rear fingerprint sensor, GPS, USB-Type C and 4G LTE support. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity support.
Pre-orders for the device start today until 4th July where consumers will purchase the device and get free Bluetooth headsets. The pre-orders can be made on Jumiaa and other offline shops across the country.
