Huawei will launch HarmonyOS Smartphones in 2021

Huawei is hosting its Annual Developer conference event today with exciting news about the future of its smartphone ecosystem. The event is packed with new announcements on Huawei Mobile Service (HMS) Core 5.0, HarmonyOS, and its latest custom Android iteration skin based on the now official Android 11.

At the event, Richard Yu, the company’s consumer business group head said the company plans to launch smartphones powered by HarmonyOS next year.

In preparation for the 2021 launch, the company plans to open beta versions to developers starting December this year, according to Yu.

Huawei’s smartphone business still faces uncertainty after the May restrictions imposed by the US government.

The Chinese company has been forced to ditch production of its own high-end chips due to May sanctions that kicked the company out of the global chip supply chain.
