Apple Patches an iOS 13 Vulnerability that Allowed iPhone ‘Jailbreaking’

Just last week,  the unc0ver team discovered an iOS 13.5 vulnerability that allowed anyone to jailbreak an iPhone or iPad. The company yesterday released an update to that in the latest iOS version – iOS 13.5.1. The unc0ver jailbreak was already popular when it was released last week and several people were able to replicate the same.

But it was fun until it lasted. Barely a week after the release, the company has already made it happen by patching the kernel vulnerability which could let iOS and iPadOS 13.5 users bypass Apple’s restriction and get more control over their devices. It’s similar to being released from Apple’s “jail.” Hence the term “jailbreak.”

The downside to this is that in the hands of malicious people, it could be a big security loophole. That’s why Apple has always been haste when it comes to patching jailbreaks.

You should, therefore, update your iPhone or iPad to the latest iOS/iPad OS version as it provides a shield against the jailbreak. Apple describes the patch as an antidote to prevent an application from being “able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.”

iOS 13.5.1 also comes with new Memoji stickers plus other bug fixes and improvements.

The update is available for the following Apple devices;

iPhone 6s and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch 7th generation

To check for the update Open your Settings app choose “General”, then tap on Software Update.
