Apple CEO Says He’s Not Ready to Allow Third Party Apps

Apple CEO Tim Cook has raised his voice against an ongoing attempt to have his company allow third-party apps onto its devices.

Speaking at the Global Privacy Summit, where he delivered the keynote speech on Tuesday, Cook said, “If we are forced to let unvetted apps onto iPhones, the unintended consequences will be profound,” Adding that, “Data-hungry companies would be able to avoid our privacy rules and once again track our users against their will.”

In the United States, two bills that would see the regulation of the App Store and Play Store run by Apple and Google, respectively, are at an advanced stage to become law. In July, over thirty states took Google to court, alleging that the tech giant misused its power through the Google Play store on mobile devices.

The European Union(EU) is fast-tracking legislation that would force Apple to allow the installation of apps from outside the Apple App Store.

Several players in the tech industry have been pushing for a more liberalized approach in-app services. Google and Apple among conglomerates opposed to changes in laws regulating app management.
