Chipper Cash Launches Seamless International Money Transfers in Zambia with Western Union Partnership

Chipper Cash and Western Union team up to bring faster, simpler global money transfers to users in Zambia

Zambia’s Chipper Cash users can now send and receive money around the world, thanks to a new partnership with Western Union and Zoona Transactions Zambia Limited.

The update folds Western Union’s international transfer service directly into the Chipper Cash app, giving customers access to over 200 countries and territories. They can send funds to mobile wallets, arrange for cash pick-up abroad, and—soon—transfer money straight into overseas bank accounts.

For Chipper Cash and Zoona, it’s the latest step in a partnership that began when Chipper acquired the Zambian fintech in 2022. Together, they now serve more than five million customers across Africa. Western Union brings 175 years of experience in cross-border payments, while Chipper Cash offers a mobile-first platform that fits neatly into how people in Zambia already move money.

Using the service is straightforward. Customers top up their Chipper Cash wallets at any of the available cash and digital touchpoints—retailers, mobile network agents, ATMs, or banks—then start a transfer right from their phone. The app is free to download on both Android and iOS.

The move reflects a wider trend in Africa’s fintech scene: pairing global money networks with local digital wallets to make sending money as easy as paying for groceries. And in a country where remittances are a financial lifeline for many households, convenience can make all the difference.
