160 Youth in Nyamira County Graduate with Digital Skills Through Huawei DigiTruck Program
Since its inception in 2019, the DigiTruck has trained over 9,000 young people across 39 counties

A total of 160 youth from Nyamira County have graduated from Huawei Kenya DigiTruck digital skills training program, marking another milestone in the effort to bridge Kenya’s digital divide.
The month-long training, conducted through Huawei’s solar-powered DigiTruck – a mobile digital classroom—equipped participants with essential skills in basic computer use, online job searching, digital marketing, internet safety, and CV writing.
The program was delivered in partnership with the Nyamira County Government and supported by Nominated MP Hon. Irene Mayaka.
“Having passionately championed the arrival of this program in Nyamira, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished,” said Hon. Mayaka during the graduation ceremony. “This initiative was about more than just technology; it was about empowerment and unlocking opportunities for our youth.”
The Huawei DigiTruck Program is part of Huawei’s broader commitment to digital inclusion. Since its inception in 2019, the DigiTruck has trained over 9,000 young people across 39 counties, with Nyamira’s graduation adding to the 900 already trained in 2025 alone. Other recent training locations include Kisii, Baringo, Migori, and Homa Bay Counties.
According to a World Bank report, only 38% of rural youth in Kenya possess basic ICT skills, compared to 67% in urban areas, a gap the DigiTruck initiative aims to close. With over 60% of jobs in Kenya projected to require digital and cognitive skills by 2030, programs like this are seen as crucial for preparing the next generation for the future of work.
Winnie Chepkonga, CSR Coordinator at Huawei Kenya, praised the Nyamira cohort, saying, “We are thrilled to see the tangible impact the DigiTruck is having. Huawei remains committed to empowering young people with the tools they need to succeed in a digital world.”
Graduates received certificates recognizing their new skills, positioning them to pursue opportunities in digital entrepreneurship, freelancing, and e-commerce. An innovation competition was also introduced to encourage participants to apply their skills in developing tech-based solutions to local challenges.
