Google opens applications for 3rd cohort of Black Founders Fund 2023 for Africa

Google has opened applications for this year’s Black Founders Fund for Startups in Africa and Europe.

Startups from Africa applying for the fund must be headquartered in the continent and developing solutions.

The program has so far provided $34.5 million in cash to 448 Black and Latino founders since launching in 2020. At least 110 black-owned businesses in Africa have benefited from two successful cohorts.

Other benefits include:

  • Up to $200K in Google Cloud Credits
  • Meet and learn from peers and expand your network in the industry
  • Mentorship from Google teams, leadership group sessions and 1:1s
  • Marketing and legal office hours and workshops
  • Roundtables with leading VCs and industry experts.

Selected founders receive up to $150,000 in capital along with ongoing Google mentorship, Google Cloud credits, and product support to help them navigate every stage of their startup journey.

Last year, Kenya was represented by 12 startups, while Nigeria had the highest number of beneficiaries with 23 startups.

Google has pledged $4 million in funding for this year to go toward supporting black-founded businesses that meet certain criteria.

Applications for this year’s Google Black Founders Fund in Africa are open until the 26th of March. You can apply here.
