County governments urged to accelerate their digital transformation
County Governments have been urged to follow the government’s steps in adopting ICT Services. Speaking at the ongoing Connected Summit at the Leisure Lodge Golf and Resort in Diani, Devolution PS Julius Korir said the role county governments play in digitizing services is very critical.
‘’Country governments are very critical for us in digital transformation because they’re the first contact between the national government and local citizens’’ he said.
The CS noted that all Counties that have set up working ICT systems have seen sharp revenue collections and prudence in financial management. 18 county governments, the CS says have already deployed revenue collection and management systems to monitor their revenue streams.
The council of governors already has an ICT committee that handles all matters relating to ICT development in the County. This involves; a review of current bills before the National Assembly, Senate and County Assemblies relating to ICT, a review of national policies, and research on international best practices for ICT development and innovation.
Speaking at the event, Sella Wekesa, the Senior Manager Public Sector at Safaricom said for digitization to take place, businesses, county governments and the national government need a partner that will support them to draw strategies on how to accelerate their digitization process and to do so efficiently and securely.
‘’We note that; while we have a lot of world-class solutions available at a click of a button, there is a need for local support to help make decisions on where to start, what to purchase, how to set up and pay for the relevant solutions,’’ she said
‘’We are positive that the summit will be an avenue to help accelerate the country’s tech space and improve on technology experiences. I hope that we will use these few days to network and exchange brilliant and actionable ideas,’’ she added.
Connected Summit which was first held in 2009 has brought together over 1000 ICT local and international industry leaders and experts under one roof. The theme for this year’s summit is “Accelerating Digital Transformation” and participants will engage on conversations on how ICT will support the different sectors of the economy and society through digital skills, digital infrastructure as well as ICT innovations.
