Facebook and Instagram were down yesterday, here’s why

Most of you probably did not notice this but Facebook and Instagram were temporarily down for a few hours yesterday.  Some users from different parts of the world were not able to access the two social networking sites.

Desktop and mobile users across the world were affected by the technical glitch which was said to have been caused by a code change.

This information was first reported by Down Detector, a website that tracks Internet outages across the globe. According to the website, many users could not able to access Facebook like usual. Some users could access the site but were unable to load certain pages or upload pictures, the website reported.

For Instagram, users reported problems logging in, refreshing their news feed, posting to Instagram Stories, “liking” photos and more.

A Facebook spokesperson acknowledged the issue through a statement. In the statement, the spokesperson said  “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services. We quickly investigated and are currently restoring service for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”

Some people took to Twitter to complain about the outage.
