Governor Irungu Kang’ata Launches MyMurang’a App Ahead of Public Rollout
Murang’a begins moving permits, payments and applications into one mobile platform
Irungu Kang’ata, the governor of Murang’a County, has announced the rollout of the MyMurang’a mobile application as a central platform for accessing Murang’a County services, bringing permits, payments, bursary applications and job listings into a single system. The app is already live on the Google Play store, with a public launch scheduled for April 18, 2026 at Kimorori Stadium.
The rollout places routine county services on mobile, allowing residents to complete applications and payments without visiting offices.
What the MyMurang’a app covers
MyMurang’a App combines several services that were previously handled through separate channels. Users can process Single Business Permits, liquor and health licenses, and settle fees linked to land rates, parking and utilities.
The platform also includes bursary applications and access to county job opportunities, expanding beyond payments into education and employment support. Additional features include service tracking, notifications and access to health and business information.
Security is handled through PIN and biometric login, with the system available throughout the day.
Built on existing county systems
Murang’a has already automated parts of its revenue and licensing systems in recent years. The new app brings these systems into a single interface, reducing fragmentation in how residents interact with the county.
Officials link earlier automation efforts to improved collections and faster processing, forming the base for a broader digital rollout.
Public response and positioning
Early reactions online describe the app as a practical improvement in how county services are accessed. Some users point to Murang’a as setting the pace for digital service delivery among counties.
The launch also strengthens Governor Kang’ata’s profile around technology-led administration, an area that has become more visible in county-level comparisons.
Context within Kenya’s county digitisation
Counties across Kenya have introduced digital platforms, largely centred on payments and licensing. Nairobi and Kiambu, among others, have deployed similar systems, though scope and adoption vary.
Murang’a’s approach extends into bursaries and job applications, placing more citizen-facing services within a single mobile platform.
Next steps after rollout
The April 18th launch event is expected to outline further integrations and future updates. Uptake will determine how widely the app is used for everyday county interactions.
For now, the focus remains on onboarding users and stabilising a platform intended to handle a wide share of Murang’a County services through mobile access.
