Claw Phones Are Coming to Kenya: TECNO’s EllaClaw Is Leading the Change

TECNO Mobile is set to redefine what smartphones can do for everyday users in Kenya and across emerging markets, with the upcoming beta launch of EllaClaw, the first mobile AI agent powered by the OpenClaw framework.

Designed to simplify complex digital tasks without requiring any technical know-how, EllaClaw is deeply embedded into Ella, TECNO’s built-in assistant. Rather than functioning as a basic voice or chat tool, EllaClaw operates at the system level, enabling users to execute multi-step and long-duration tasks through simple, natural-language instructions, all from within an interface Kenyans already use daily.

At the heart of EllaClaw is what TECNO calls One Sentence Automation, the ability to trigger full task execution from a single, casually expressed instruction. Whether it’s scheduling appointments, organizing files, or sending follow-up messages, the agent turns intent into action with minimal friction.

Complementing this is cross-app data integration, which allows EllaClaw to pull and connect information across SMS, calendars, notes, and more. Two standout features demonstrate this in practice: a smart SMS summary tool that automatically categorizes messages, flags priority notifications, and identifies what can be safely cleared; and a daily schedule feature that compiles calendar events, notes, weather updates, and curated news into a single, easy-to-follow daily brief.

TECNO says EllaClaw is built on its Practical AI philosophy, a commitment to AI that is genuinely useful rather than flashy. Central to this is a persistent memory system that gradually learns a user’s habits and preferences over time, evolving the assistant from a reactive tool into a proactive digital companion.

Privacy is also baked into the design. TECNO says user data processed by EllaClaw remains secure, isolated, and inaccessible to unauthorized third parties.

The launch builds on the recent rollout of the TECNO CAMON 50 Series in Kenya, a device TECNO positions as a high-performance productivity powerhouse. EllaClaw is intended to take the CAMON 50 experience further, transforming it from a capable handset into one that actively adapts to its owner’s needs and routines.

“With EllaClaw, TECNO takes this even further, creating a smarter and more intuitive smartphone experience where CAMON 50 truly sees you and adapts to your needs,” the company said in a statement.

The beta rollout is expected in the coming months, with details on how Kenyan users can participate set to be announced via TECNO’s official social media channels.
