Google Integrates Nano Banana AI Image Creator into Search via Lens

Google has officially rolled out its powerful Nano Banana generative AI model directly into the Google app, making advanced image creation and editing accessible through Google Lens.

Users on Android and iOS can now find this feature within a new “Create mode” in Lens.

Nano Banana, the popular codename for Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, is a sophisticated tool that allows users to generate entirely new images from a text prompt or dramatically edit existing photos using natural language commands.

Since its launch in August 2025, the model has been widely used for its ability to seamlessly change backgrounds, add or remove objects, and alter the artistic style of a picture to formats like watercolor or anime, all while maintaining the consistency of the original subjects.

To access the new feature, users can open the Google app, tap the Lens camera icon in the search bar, and then select the new “Create mode,” which is identified by a yellow banana icon. From there, you can either take a new photo, select one from your gallery, and type a prompt to transform it, such as “change the background to a minimalist office” or “make this look like a photo booth picture.” Users can also create new images from scratch simply by describing what they want.

This integration is part of Google’s broader strategy to embed its generative AI capabilities across its entire product suite.

In addition to Search and Lens, the Nano Banana model is also enhancing “Video Overviews” in Google’s NotebookLM and is planned for an upcoming release in Google Photos.

The feature is currently rolling out in English for users in the United States. As with its other generative AI tools, Google includes a SynthID watermark, both visible and invisible, on all images created with Nano Banana to ensure transparency and identify the content as AI-generated.
