Nairobi is one of the few capitals in the world with a national park at its doorstep. Now, the gap between office blocks and open plains has narrowed even further. Uber Safari, launched as the company marks 10 years in Kenya, allows residents and tourists to book guided game drives directly through the app.
How the Service Works
Riders can choose between a three-hour day safari for up to seven passengers or a night safari for up to five. Each trip uses safari-ready Land Cruisers operated by licensed tour companies, with certified guides providing commentary and spotting wildlife along the way.
Bookings are made through Uber Reserve in the app, and vehicles arrive at customers’ homes to start the journey. Park entry fees are paid directly to the Kenya Wildlife Service, while payments for the safari are made upfront in the app to ensure smooth planning.
A New Way to Experience the Wild
Uber Safari changes the way people interact with Nairobi National Park. It removes the usual hurdles of planning, making the park feel closer and more immediate. Riders get a structured wildlife experience without the logistics or long travel times of traditional safaris.
“This service is designed to make safaris more accessible and convenient for both local residents and international visitors,” said Imran Manji, Uber General Manager for East Africa. “It also opens new earning opportunities for drivers and tour operators who rely on tourism.”
Supporting Tourism and Local Operators
Tourism remains a crucial part of Kenya’s economy, contributing over 10 percent of GDP and supporting millions of jobs. Since its launch in Kenya, Uber has generated billions in economic value for drivers and the tourism sector. With Uber Safari, local tour operators and Land Cruiser fleets can now register their vehicles on the platform, tapping into Uber’s rider base while offering trusted, safe, and high-quality safari experiences.
What It Feels Like
Imagine climbing into a Land Cruiser in your own neighborhood. Minutes later, you’re in the park, spotting zebras grazing, giraffes moving gracefully across the plains, and lions resting in the shade. Three hours later, you are back in the city, but the experience lingers—a reminder of how close the wild really is.
Uber Safari merges technology and tradition, making wildlife access immediate, convenient, and human-centered. It is a service that captures curiosity, supports local communities, and showcases Nairobi as a capital where nature and city life intersect like nowhere else in the world.
