NTT DATA has announced the appointment of Jafar Kuruniyan as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for its Middle East and Africa operations, succeeding Barry Curtin, who steps down after 16 years with the company, including 12 years as regional CFO.
Kuruniyan, a Certified Management Accountant and MBA graduate from Mahatma Gandhi University, brings extensive financial expertise and institutional knowledge to the role. He joined NTT DATA’s Middle East team in 2009 and has since risen through the ranks, most recently serving as Vice President of Finance for the Middle East for five years. His strategic insight and proven ability to enhance financial performance and operational efficiency were highlighted as key strengths for his new position.
“Jafar has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and a deep understanding of our business,” said Alan Turnley-Jones, CEO of NTT DATA for Middle East and Africa. “His appointment reflects our confidence in his ability to build on Barry’s legacy and continue strengthening our financial governance and strategic growth across the region.”
Turnley-Jones also paid tribute to Curtin, describing his contribution as “truly exceptional.” He praised Curtin’s strategic leadership, financial acumen, and dedication, which played a central role in shaping NTT DATA into a strong and resilient business. During his 12-year tenure as CFO, Curtin supported four successive CEOs and served on most of the company’s main boards as an executive director, chairman, and non-executive director. He also chaired the Employee Empowerment Trust, where he helped strengthen succession planning and talent development within the finance function.
Curtin will remain with NTT DATA for a transitional period to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.
Reflecting on his career, Curtin said: “It has been an incredible privilege to be part of NTT DATA’s journey over the past 16 years. I am proud of what we have achieved together and remain invested in the company’s continued success. While I look forward to beginning a new chapter, I am excited to stay connected with NTT DATA and watch the business continue to thrive.”
Based in Dubai, Kuruniyan will join the diverse MEA Executive Leadership Team, headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, and oversee financial operations across the region.
