The National Transport and Safety Authority has launched an online portal where motorists can check the status of their smart driving licences and new generation number plates before travelling to collection centres.
In a brief announcement issued on Tuesday, the Authority said users can access the service through the eCitizen platform, enter either their National ID number or vehicle registration details, and receive a status update. Each query is automatically routed to the relevant collection centre as a formal complaint.
The move follows growing concerns from motorists over delays in processing smart licences and the rollout of the new plates. NTSA explained that the portal was developed to shorten wait times at its offices and improve transparency on pending applications.
“Click on servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke and share your details and submit; this will go directly to your collection centre as a complaint,” NTSA said in its advisory.
To check a driving licence status, applicants must submit their National ID number, while those tracking number plate production must provide vehicle registration details.
Separately, the Authority last week directed all national and county government offices to replace their current plates with reflective ones ahead of a planned enforcement exercise. The deadline is August 29, and vehicles found non-compliant risk being impounded.
NTSA said the plate upgrade is part of a broader strategy to reduce vehicle-related crimes and improve traceability. The portal has also been upgraded to accommodate bulk applications and allow government entities to register through official e-Agent accounts.
With the new self-check portal in place, the Authority is hoping to ease congestion at its offices and reduce the number of repeated calls and visits by motorists across the country.
