Our editorial mission is to provide accurate, timely, and impactful content that informs, educates, and inspires our audience while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
Our Mission
TechTrends Media exists to tell the most important technology stories from Africa and beyond with accuracy, fairness, and context. We aim to break down complex ideas, track industry shifts, and highlight the innovators shaping the continent’s future. Whether covering a startup launch, a groundbreaking policy, a product reviews, or sustainability reports and initiatives, we hold ourselves to the highest editorial and ethical standards.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial team operates entirely independently from our commercial, sales, and events divisions. All news coverage, reviews, podcasts, and analysis are produced without influence from advertisers, sponsors, or partners. If we cover a company with which we have a commercial relationship, we disclose this clearly to our audience.
Accuracy and Verification
We commit to confirming facts before publishing, relying on primary sources whenever possible. Quotes are reproduced faithfully, with any edits made only for brevity or clarity, without altering meaning. Data, market statistics, and technical specifications are checked against reputable sources. In breaking news situations, we prioritise accuracy over speed, ensuring updates are made promptly as new details emerge.
Fairness and Objectivity
We strive to represent multiple perspectives in our coverage. Subjects of our reporting are given a fair opportunity to comment before publication. Our tone is always informative rather than sensationalist, and opinions are clearly separated from news reporting. When analysis or commentary is provided, it is explicitly identified as such.
Reviews and Recommendations
Our reviews of gadgets, software, and services are based on real-world testing and independent evaluation. We may receive review units from companies, but this never influences the outcome of our assessment. We do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage, ensuring that our recommendations remain trustworthy and credible.
Sponsored Content and Partnerships
Any sponsored articles, branded content, or partner features are clearly labelled at the top of the story. These pieces are developed by our commercial team in collaboration with partners and remain separate from our editorial work. While they aim to provide value to readers and meet advertiser objectives, they are never presented as independent journalism.
Corrections Policy
If we publish incorrect information, we correct it promptly. Corrections are clearly indicated at the bottom of the story with an explanation of the change, and substantial updates after publication are timestamped and described.
Ethical Guidelines
We do not plagiarise, and we always credit original sources. We avoid conflicts of interest, and all staff are required to disclose personal or financial relationships with companies they cover. We respect privacy, publishing personal information only when there is a compelling public interest. Gifts, perks, or incentives that could compromise our impartiality are not accepted.
Use of AI in Editorial Work
We may use AI tools to support transcription, research, or data analysis, but all published content is written, reviewed, and approved by human editors. We do not publish AI-generated journalism without human oversight and verification.
Reader Engagement and Feedback
We welcome feedback, tips, and corrections from our readers. Story suggestions can be sent to editorial@techtrendsmedia.co.ke, and requests for corrections should be directed to editorial@techtrendsmedia.co.ke. We encourage respectful, relevant discussion across our platforms and reserve the right to moderate comments that violate these principles.
Transparency & Coverage Guidelines
TechTrends Media values openness in how we gather and present information. We accept embargoed information and will honour agreed publication dates, provided such agreements are made before information is shared. We may pursue exclusive stories, but these are only agreed upon if they are in the interest of our readers and do not compromise our editorial independence. We attend industry events, product launches, and press briefings both in person and virtually. In some cases, travel and accommodation may be provided by the event organiser, but acceptance of such support does not influence the tone or outcome of our coverage. When a company or brand has provided review units, demo access, or early product samples, we disclose this in our reporting. We do not submit stories to external parties for approval before publication, although we may verify facts or technical details with relevant sources to ensure accuracy. All interviews, whether conducted in person, over the phone, or online, are on the record unless otherwise agreed. Off-the-record and background information is only used in accordance with professional journalism standards.
Commitment to Africa’s Tech Narrative
We believe Africa’s technology and sustainability story is still being written, and we are committed to being its most trusted storyteller. We amplify the work of African innovators, provide context for global tech trends, and examine how technology and sustainability shape business, society, and culture across the continent.
