TECNO Camon 40 Debuts in Kenya: Will It Outshine OPPO and Samsung in the AI Race?

TECNO Camon 40 Series: The TECNO Camon 20 was the last TECNO phone we reviewed here at TechTrends Media. Launched in May 2023, the phone was a solid option for anyone who was looking for a phone at that price range. Then came the Camon 30, which again, we can’t say much about because we also never got a chance to check it out.
Fast forward to 2025, and TECNO has now unveiled the Camon 40 series..
The Camon 40 series was unveiled at an invite-only event held at the Sarit Center in Nairobi. According to the company, this series blends cutting-edge AI innovation with professional-grade imaging to empower users to “capture life effortlessly, in every scene.
TECNO says the series is designed for photography enthusiasts. ‘’It debuts as TECNO’s ultimate AI Flash Snap master, revolutionizing mobile photography with full-screen capture and efficient AI features,’’ the company says.
TECNO now joins other smartphone brands in the market that are pushing AI as a key selling point for their smartphones. We have seen brands like OPPO doing the same with the Reno Series. The OPPO Reno13F, which we have reviewed here, for example, comes with a bunch of AI features like AI Livephoto, AI Editor that gives users access to AI Unblur, AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Reflection Remover, AI Eraser, AI Studio and AI Reimage.
Other AI features enhance productivity, including AI Toolbox 2.0, AI Linkboost 2.0, and BeaconLink. AI HyperBoost makes sure your gaming experience is smooth all day, allowing for lag-free gameplay while keeping the phone cool in conjunction with the phone’s AI Multi-Cooling system that combines AI algorithms and the large Vapor chamber to leverage heat dissipation.
Samsung, which has pioneered Galaxy AI, is also now pushing AI features to its A series. For the first time, Samsung’s Awesome AI comes to the recently launched Galaxy A series, which comprises the Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G. The Galaxy A36, in particular, competes directly with the Camon 40, offering a smart and intuitive mobile experience, enhanced by One UI 7 for improved productivity and creativity.
With One UI 7 to enhance them, these capabilities allow users to streamline creativity and productivity while indulging in a highly intuitive mobile experience. (We have the phones in for review so be sure to check out our detailed highlights this month).
The CAMON 40 Series is now available nationwide at TECNO-exclusive stores. Prices range from Ksh 24,999 to Ksh 34,999. Hopefully, we can get our hands on one for a comprehensive review and highlight some of the AI features TECNO is pushing.
