Airtel Kenya Launches Airtel Lite: Faster, Lighter, and Data-Free

Airtel Kenya launched the new Airtel Lite, a Progressive Web App(PWA) intended to provide a lighter, speedier, and more accessible self-care experience for customers.

The platform provides almost everything that the My Airtel self-care app provides, but it is for smartphones with low memory and low processing capability.

Apart from the launch of Airtel Lite, Airtel Kenya also announced that it has zero-rated the My Airtel App and customers can now access self-care services without incurring data charges.

With many smartphone users conscious of data consumption and accustomed to USSD services, Airtel Lite revolutionizes the experience of its customers communicating with Airtel’s products and services.

Keeping in mind zero memory requirements, the PWA is very much accessible without the headaches of downloads or updates. Furthermore, there shall be zero data charge incurred for accessing Airtel Lite, emulating the My Airtel app’s offline access to key services without needing data bundles.

Airtel Lite also features a quick-loading interface for users who need instant access to mandatory services. Checks for balances, recharge, buying bundles, sending money, making payments, and viewing transaction histories-all the basic customer needs covered by the app.

Speaking about the launch, Mr. Ashish Malhotra, the Airtel Kenya Managing Director, reiterated the company’s appreciation of innovations and customer-centric solutions.

“At Airtel Kenya, we continuously strive to address our customers’ needs by adding real value to their digital experience. Our research shows that many Kenyans still face challenges like limited storage space and high data costs. Airtel Lite is our innovative solution, designed to eliminate these barriers and ensure a seamless, accessible digital experience for all,” he said.

“As the country strives to attain a fully digitized economy, such initiatives like Airtel Lite play a pivotal role in hastening the process of digital acceptance. The app provides a bridge for users traditionally reliant on USSD services to smoothly transition to a digital self-care experience. This serves as a great convenience and, in fact, enhances financial inclusion by making mobile banking and digital payments easy to reach, especially in poorly serviced and far-out regions,’ he continued.

“Airtel Lite is a gateway to digital empowerment for millions of Kenyans,” added Mr. Malhotra. “By ensuring that every customer, regardless of their device, can access our services, we are making sure that no one is left behind in Kenya’s digital transformation journey.”

Airtel Lite is now available to all Airtel Kenya customers and can be accessed via mobile browsers by visiting https://lite.airtelkenya.com/.
