Google’s Country Director for East Africa Agnes Gathaiya Exits
Agnes Gathaiya, Google’s Country Director for East Africa has left the company after more than 4 plus years at the firm.
Agnes announced that she was leaving the tech giant to pursue other interests.
‘’After 4+ incredible years at Google as the Country Director for East Africa, the time has come for me to bid farewell and embark on a new chapter in my life,’’ she said.
‘’My journey at Google has been a profound experience, filled with learning, growth, and impactful contributions. Working alongside a talented and inspiring group of Googlers dedicated to transforming the continent through digitization has been an absolute honour.’’
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Agnes also oversaw key initiatives such as Google for Education, Google My Business, Hustle Academy, and the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program among others.
During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in shaping Google’s presence across key markets in the region, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.

We drove 8X commercial growth, enhanced Google’s brand and reputation in the market, and fostered a culture of camaraderie, trust, and well-being within our rapidly growing team,’’ she said.
Before joining Google, Agnes held leadership positions at various organizations, including Integrated Payment Services Limited (IPSL), Deloitte Consulting, SAP, Chase Bank, and Safaricom.
In addition to her corporate achievements, Agnes is also a passionate advocate for gender equality in the technology sector. She co-founded Hernovation, a mentorship and coaching platform designed to help women in tech develop leadership skills and advance their careers. Her dedication to creating opportunities for women has built a pipeline of empowered female leaders contributing to the industry’s growth and transformation.
