The HMD Barbie phone is finally here. This is the company’s retro flip phone made in collaboration with Mattel as part of the company’s multi-brand strategy.

This launch of the Barbie flip feature phone taps into nostalgia, providing the perfect accessory for people who want to disconnect from their smartphones and enjoy more straightforward, enjoyable moments. This is a true feature phone for those aiming to detox as it doesn’t come with apps but allows for connectivity through calls and texts.

The Barbie flip phone comes powered with KaiOS 3.1 and features custom Barbie icons, ringtones, and wallpapers – the snake game also has the Barbie theme. There are nice digital detox features HMD added such as self-care reminders, digital wellbeing tips, and a Barbie meditation app.

The HMD Barbie phone has a Unisoc T107 chipset with storage options starting from 128MB expandable with 32GB microSD and RAM options starting from 64MB to 512MB(4GB storage).

For cameras, you have a 5MP primary camera and a 0.3MP secondary camera(VGA). You don’t get a selfie camera. It has a 2.8-inch TFT LCD main screen and a 1.77-inch external screen.

The HMD Barbie phone has a 1450mAh battery and support for Type-C charging. The phone has a headphone jack, wireless FM radio, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wifi support.

What They’re Saying

“In our fast-paced digital world, it can often feel like the online buzz never stops. This phone encourages you to ditch your smartphone in times when you just want less browsing and more fun, all with the help of a true cultural icon, Barbie. Barbie is as popular as she’s ever been, and feature phones are continuing to go from strength to strength – we’re bringing two brilliant things together. We cannot wait for people to get their hands on the device and take a holiday from their smartphone, ” said Global Chief Marketing Officer at Human Mobile Devices, Lars Silberbauer.

“At Mattel we have an unwavering commitment to design and innovation and this exciting new phone is a great example of that, tapping into important insights into how people want to limit their screen time. HMD has created amazing easter eggs which will make the user experience even more special and playful, sure to delight Barbie fans all over the world,” said Head of Licensing at Mattel EMEA, Ruth Henriquez.
