Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 with advanced AI features officially launched

Samsung on Wednesday officially announced its latest foldable smartphones, the  Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.

This year, Samsung has gone big on the phones with the integration of its Galaxy AI  with Google AI and Google Gemini. The phones are also thinner, brighter and come with higher-resolution folding displays. 

The new Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 are now available for preorder in Kenya at authorised Samsung stores and e-commerce partners from 11th July to 31st July.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6, which is the big brother here starts at Ksh 264,000 local pricing.  The Galaxy Z Flip6  on the other hand starts at Kshs. 148,000.

Galaxy Z Flip6

Some of the major upgrades Samsung has brought to this 6th generation of the Flip are better cameras, and Google AI integration. The phone is also thinner, lighter and finally, a bigger battery life. 

The  Google AI features integrated into the phone include live translations between languages which we saw on the Galaxy S24. We’re also getting access to the Google Gemini AI app that allows you to chat with the AI to compose text and handle a wide range of other tasks. 

The cover display is AMOLED and measures 3.4 inches, has a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits, a 60Hz refresh rate and offers 720 x 748-pixel resolution. When unfolded, the main Dynamic AMOLED 2z display is 6.7 inches with a 2,640 x 1,080-pixel resolution, a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. 

It measures just 3.35 x 2.83 x 0.59 inches when folded, so it easily fits in a pocket. 

Powering the Galaxy Z Flip6 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy processor which has a processing speed up to 3.4GHz. This makes it the fastest folding Samsung phone yet. The phone is also IP48 rated for water resistance. Samsung has pledged to support the phone with new OS and security updates for seven years.

We’re getting a 50MP resolution for the main wide camera which is complimented by a 12MP ultra-wide. Thanks to Photo Assist with Galaxy AI Samsung has also given users enhanced tools for easier editing of photos and videos. 

Galaxy Z Fold6

The Galaxy Z Fold6 is my favourite here and is the ideal phone for multitasking. 

When unfolded, you’re getting a 7.6-inch touchscreen display that’s fully compatible with the included S Pen stylus.  The outer screen on the other hand is  6.3 inches, with a 2376 x 968 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The biggest upgrade over last year Z Fold5 is the addition of Google AI.

The phone features a 4,400-mAh battery and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, which offers you 18% faster CPU performance, 19% faster GPU performance and enhanced on-device AI performance compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5.  Samsung is also promising seven years of OS and security update support. 

The Galaxy Z Fold6 comes in three variants of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.  It’s now lighter weighing just 239 grams instead of the 253 grams in the Z Fold 5. 

The Fold 6’s camera hardware is just the same as last year’s. We’re still getting a 50-megapixel main rear camera and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto. Samsung however updated the ultrawide this year 12-megapixel, which promises better low-light performance according to Samsung.

Pre-orders

In Kenya, the Recommended Retail price for the Galaxy Z Fold6 256GB  is Ksh 264,000 while the Galaxy Z Flip6 will go for Kshs. 148,000. The two will be available for pre-order at

authorised Samsung stores and e-commerce partners from 11th July to 31st July.

 Samsung says customers who pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold6 will receive a slim S-pen case while those who pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip6 will receive a flip suite case set.
